1/Does the Door open from the inside?
2/ If so then open the door, remove the first wood panel in front of the inside door handle, this may require a certain element of force as it pulls off!! Becareful not to break the plastic clips.
3/ This will bare a long 10mm brass screw at the side of the handle, remove this. Then remove the mirror adjustment switch and disconnect. This just pry's out.
4/The door trim then unclips from the door, remember to remove the door knob at the window, as this will restrict access into the door. Now the fiddly part. Its a matter of fumbling in the dark to find out which rod has become disconnected, it can be on of two, a long rod Horizontal or a short vertical rod that activates the door lock mechanism. Once found relocate into a plastic Lug on the handle mechanism. Then try with the door panel off, Keep testing as you go, Cos' I built my door back up only tofind it didn't work once assembled, despite testing!!!
Any Probs Email me.
I'm having to enter the car through the passenger side, which requires some acrobatic skill.
Drivers door key will unlock all doors except driver's. How do I remove the door panel when I can't open the door?
"Emergency manual unlock" procedure in the Bentley manual (lifting up on handle while twisting key) does not work. I have a 1988 735i but the driver's door handle is a new unit, replaced earlier this year.
