Posted about a week ago with a whining or humming sound at 45-70 mph with little feedback. The sound starts at 45 gets loudest to 60 and lessens until 70. Sound is there in neutral or any gear and on or off the gas. Sort of sounds like some rear diff bearings I changed in a old T-bird, but that noise was only on the gas and disappeared off the gas or in neutral. I doubt it is the tranny since it is there in neutral and must be in something that is moving because it seems to get higher in frequency the faster I go. It is not very loud because you cannot hear it with the fan on about medium or the radio turned up slightly. It is most audible at night or with the radio off. I know it is not the tires like someone mentioned I might check. I have a hunch it is either that rear diff noise Gail described while turning without enough of the limited slip lubricant or a bad bearing in the rear diff, a rear wheel bearing, or a center bearing on the drive shaft. Can someone who knows how to tell the difference within these shine some light on my problem. What does a center bearing sound like when it is going out? How do I check the center bearing to see if it is getting bad? What do wheel bearings sound like when they are going and how loud are they? I cannot localized the sound to a wheel by opening a window and listening. Shouldn't the rear diff noise be only on the gas with power to the wheels and disappear while coasting? The noise is seeming to get louder or I am getting insane listening to it. Others in the car do not think it is that bad or loud, but I am one of those perfectionists which something like this will drive me insane. Any ideas please help

Otis
