I would guess that you would NOT want to jumper this out. I am assuming that by "jumper" you mean connect the two sides of the connector together at the brake lining sensor connector at the rear wheel, or in some other location. I believe what causes the "brake linings" message to come up is when continuity as achieved through the brake rotor. I.e. the brake rotor acts as a jumper and connects the two wires together. The manual says that if the brake linings message appeared before you changed your pads, then you will have to replace the sensor as well. I would think a way to test the sensor would be to disconnect the eletrical connector at the rear wheel, and then see if you get continuity through the sensor. Again, I am guessing that you don't want continuity. Perhaps once the sensor touches the brake rotor, something wears that causes a permanent connection between the two wires of the sensor. Another likely reason for them recommending replacement if the sensor had touched the rotor is that it will no longer warn you with the same amount of pad thickness remaining. The Bentley manual says nothing about having to reset the error message after a brake job.

As a side note, I think what you should be looking for is a short circuit problem, not an open circuit problem. You will need to keep checking to see why you are getting continuity in those circuits. Did the sensor cable rub through anywhere, and is it touching the body of the car? Is a wire clamp cutting into the insulation?

I haven't had to deal with this problem personally, so my comments are based on my thoughts, not on my experience. Hope that helps anyway.

Recently changed out pads and rotors and after replacement I'm getting the "brake linings" message on the OBC. Have replaced both brake sensors. Jumpering the wire at the plug DOES NOT clear the message, so I presume there is a fault upstream of the sensor, possibly in the main harness.

Should I jumper the wire at the firewall connector? Anybody seen this before and have another idea? Thanks.
