Prepared to give up, I took the car to get new tires (Michelin XGT) yesterday in spite of the frozen door. When it emerged from the tire place (Sears Auto), the door problem had been solved! Didn't realize this until I had driven home (after climbing in the pass. door)-- somebody there knew something I didn't. How it was fixed remains a mystery.

BTW, new tires make a night & day difference. Drives like a new car.

Drivers door does not respond to unlocking from pass. side/trunk. I am able, however to lock/unlock all OTHER doors from the drivers door. I can feel some resistance in the cylinder when twisting.

Disconnecting battery yielded no results-- drivers door handle is a relatively new replacement (apparently only pre-90 units allowed manual override on the driver's side)

It may be worth a try to disconnect the battery and then try the manual procedure to unlock and open the door. I suspect that the lock servo may be trying to fight you.
