sounds like the motor is still operating but the headrest will not move, cable connection issue?, checked the archives but didn't find much, please advise, thanks.

Go to E-34 board, then archive search, then type in headrest woes. About halfway down the replies you will find one (Re: try this) that takes you to a link that has pictures and narrative on this job.
