Arek,
What you describe is pretty typical for the M-30.
I believe David is correct..the injectors do make
quite a clatter on this motor. Sounds like you
have been all over your motor as many of us have
on the board. Important thing is how your cam
looks because many high mileage M-30's have had their oil distribution bar work loose at some point causing starvation to the cam and hence
lobe wear which can contribute to more noise and
uneven firing. Pull up your valve cover and inspect the cam..lobes should be smooth. Other
thing is don't set your valves tighter than .012"
cold to quiet the motor. This will decrease heat
transfer and make valves run hotter and degrade
idle quality due to the cam profile. I set my
valves at .013" cold both intake and exhaust. If your cam looks good and everything else looks normal, you have good oil pressure at start up etc., I wouldn't worry about it. Have a listen to another 5 or 7 series with the same motor for a comparison. A healthy M-30 at idle will sound as smooth as a sewing machine..and some V-12 owners will say..and just as fast..he..he.
Best Regards,
George

Hi everybody
I have 92 735iL with 141000 miles. I bought the car about
two months back. I have done a lot of work to it. Starting
with new oil pump, timing chains, sprokets, radiator, hoses, driveshaft etc.But getting to a point. I adjust valves on it twice withn 1500 miles.
(cold .012). It is quiet at idle but when I rise RPM they get louder and louder(engine is super clean, there is no oil build-up at all). Is there worn valve problem? At a top
where rocker arms contact them on that engine with such milege? should I go to .011. Thank you for any help.
