A subject near and dear to my heart.....

I upgraded from stock 15" to 17" on my 91 750iL. The deterioration in ride quality was minimal at worst. And the handling characteristics of the car improved dramatically. The only downside is that I have had a bit of a problem with bending the new rims (but I think this is more an issue with the actual rims I have, not the fact that they are 17").

So, I strongly recommend upgrading to a 17" (a bit more of a compromise than going to 18"), and putting an "ultra performance" tire on the 17's that is good in the rain (e.g. Yoko AVS Sport, Pilot Sport, etc). I have ContiSport tires on mine, and in the rain of Houston they do just fine (and the AVS or Pilots are even better in the Rain). then keep the stock 15" and mount a set of snow tires on them for the winter...then you'll have the ultimate setup.

Ok, it's been exactly a week since I bought my 740 and I was thinking about maybe getting bigger wheels and tires. I have the stock wheels on right now and I was just wondering if anyone has 17 or 18s on and how much does the ride suffer? I just want something that looks different. Maybe 16s would work also. Any experience with 16s, 17s, or 18s anyone? Your input is very well appreciated.

P.S. I don't know if this matters but I live in Seattle so I need to think about wet weather road conditions. Thanks
