1988 7-Series have 3 separate switches on the receiver/dryer. You must make sure you specify this if you have an '88 model and you are ordering a replacement. From '89 on they have 1 switch with 3 functions. Hopefully you got the correct one. I just installed a replacement kit for my A/C system which included: Sanden Compressor and Mounting Hardware. I also ordered a new receiver/dryer and installed it. The original compressor had a sensor on the top of it which was in series with the compressor clutch engagement mechanism wire. I was told that since the receiver/dryer already has 3 switches the one on the compressor wasn't necessary and could be bypassed. So, that's what I did. I connected the wire from the compressor to the wiring harness. I did a service on the A/C system and recharged it with R12. The A/C now works very well. I hope this helps,
