I recently did my centre piece. I found that this is piece of wood vinier which is covered with approximately a 2 to 3 mm clear perspex. Mine to had many cratches and was faded. I used clear plastic primmer after removing all old polish and oils.Then I used a gloss clear (normally used on cars) to finish it off. Came out as good as new.
