Greg, I hesitate to give you a reply because the factory keyless entry/alarm/remotes changed through the e32 production run. If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me...but from what I've seen and read...the 88 750iL (I think that's what you have)did not come with a keyless entry/alarm/remote...it became standard in the 89 with the infra-red switchblade remote with the "button" receiver located next to the sunroof switch and programmed by placing the remote next to the red indicator light on the top of the dash...and in late 91 it changed to the other remote which uses a chip in the "square/rectangular" remote transmitter and receiver (the receiver was located under the knee bolster and steering wheel). BUT...BMW has offered a keyless entry/alarm/system as an accessory/option that could be purchased at the dealers. So I guess I'm saying ...if you are sure that what you see under your dash is an alarm...if you don't see the BMW roundel symbol on it or anything that suggests that it is factory...then it probably is an aftermarket alarm system. Still be judicious when you disassemble it so that if you need to reconnect it, you can. Good luck...I can only imagine the frustration and stress you are under...I pray that you get the car up and running before your wife gets rid of you AND the car!! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.Q
91 735iL
As you may have noticed some of my posts below. I just bought an 88 750il. Had it shipped and it started INSTANTLY getting it off the semi and HAS NOT started since. My wifes getting REAL PISSED at me. Getting gas and cranks fine. I just noticed a 3rd party alarm system (No info of course) When turning the key I hear alot of buzzing and faint clicking under the instrument cluster. I just took off the knee bolster under the steering wheel and noticed a light blue box a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes under and to the left of the steering column. It is really wedged in there and has a bunch of wires going in and out. IS THIS FACTORY ???? It does not look like it. The previous owner knows nothing about an alarm (never used it)and it always started for him. I have checked all relays etc and they are fine. Disconnected battery for a few hours etc. Just no spark. I am suspecting the problem lies in what appears to be the aftermarket alarm. Any thoughts ???
Thanks
Greg
and has the full factory remote alarm system with the sensor near the sunroof switch and the red button on top of the dash!
