Last nite me and my wife were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary at a big town nearby. Since Christine is still in the shop we were driving around in our incredibly shitty, beaten old POS 1983 ghetto 316 1.8 (1.8 litre 4-banger with very worn carburator, incredible 83 horses when new and that was 310,000 km ago, only 4-speed manual, no accessories whatsoever) which I actually got practically for free once when trading cars and I've restored it only enough to make it pass the goverment inspections. It's ugly but it still runs strong and makes for a perfect near-zero expense "use once every few weeks while she's driving Christine" transportation and wife's grocery shopper.

So, we are on a two-lane road and stop for red sign. On our side pulls a red newer Toyota Corolla which has been riced out a bit with phat bodykits and big aluminium alloys, apparently the rear muffler has been replaced since it was making a sporty grumbling noise.

The two young men inside were just lighting cigarettes when they noticed me glancing at them so they started revving their jap and slid it one car length into the intersection for a jump start. I let mine idle (rough idling at 1,200 rpm as usual)

The light turned green and I unleashed all of the horseys that the poor old Bimmer has left, got a bad start since the very worn rear tires started spinning in the middle of the intersection on 1st gear (it was raining you see). The Corolla flung into action.

On second I let it roar all the way to over 80kmh and made a very quick shift to 3rd (this car doesn't have the short shift kit; instead some teenager had cut the shifter short...he he he DIY short shifter) and PASSED the corolla; at the end of the straight I was on 4th doing 140km/h and the Jap was several car lengths behind me!

I slowed down a bit to 120kmh since those worn tires are deadly on watery tarmac even at 90 km/h (55mph) and since there was a hard bend on the road coming up. As the two lanes split into two roads going to different directions, the poor boys did a loser-fly-by on the other road.

Me and my wife laughed all the way to the next town... Perhaps those boys should have spent all that rim/spoiler/muffler money more wisely by selling the Corolla and getting a Bimmer!

"boy, was that fun"

ps. I just wish those boys had known that my car was a ghetto model bone stock carburattor 316, now they probably tell their friends how they "almost beat a 325i"...
