I had the same problem. It turned out to be my worn tranmission mounts letting the drive line hang to low. While doing a lot a city driving the exaust system would expand just enough to rub on the drive line. Once on the freeway it had enough air flow to keep it cooler thus not rubbing on the drive. So check your transmission mounts.
