Heres my thought for what it is worth. If you change the fluid, it is only replacing a small amount that is in the tranny. The old contaminated fluid mixes with the new and actually creates some really nasty corrosives which WILL cut the life of the transmission. SOOO Change the fluid and filter, bring it up to temp by driving around the block a few times, change the fluid again (no need to change the filter yet) around the block again, change it, around the block, change it (Do you see a pattern here ??) I do this about 5-6 times, if the fluid has any trace of old fluid keep going. Then do it one more time and change the filter again. You now should be good to go. There are shops that Power flush your tranny for 89.00 or so but I have never used this service. OK by now you are saying this is going to cost TOO MUCH, I think I will take my chances. Lets see, 30-40 quarts of new fluid and 2 filters about 60-90 dollars. Hey fellow owners, anybody want to quote the bill for their rebuild, is it more than 90.00 ?????
On an '89 750iL, I have been advised not the change the transmission fluid. The car has 130,000 miles and I have no idea when the fluid was ever changed. I have had it for about 12,000 miles. A mechanics ahs suggested that changing might cause more problems because it may have never been done. Any ideas? You can definitely feel the torque converter lock up but can't feel the other gears.
BYW, the board is the reason why my Bimmer is still running today. Thanks
