i know one has the 8 and one has the 12 but what are the 0-60 specs, all automatic? Pretty good on power? The intereiors look great. Are there alot of after market parts, upgrades and such? I am a E21 and have rebuilt more 320i's and sifted through the engine more times then i would like to admit. I am looking to get into the market of the big boys and thought i'd head to the source.

Thanks for the time

82 320i soon to have 283 4 barrel
79 320i

They're all automatics although I keep hearing that in the Europe some special order 750i manuals would have rolled from the factory; can't congirm that though.

The 740 has approx 285 hp and 750 300 sharp, 750 has naturally a lot more torque thanks to the extra litre in the cylinders.

The M60 V-8 used in the 740 is more modern than the V12; for isntance there is a separate ignition coil for each cylinder and thus no need for alternator caps or rotors (which turned out to cost 37 times more than in an e30). There is also different, even more sophisticated engine control electronics system than the triple-chip system of the 750i.

There is the sulfur issue in 740; especially in US or other areas with sulfur-rich gasoline; search the archives for "Alusil" or "nikasil" or "M60 Block" to find more about the issue and if you buy a 740 make sure it has had the block changed.

Given the absurd $15,000 price tag on the short block of a 750i, I hope you won't have to go through several engines in your upcoming e32 :-)
