Got an 1990 750i with lord only knows how many miles on it (speedo plug busted. Should have 100K miles but could just as well be 200K) and It was seriously neglected in the past.

My tranny was working otherwise perfectly but if would "hang" or "hesitate" when changing from 1st to 2nd, and I noticed the gear lever getting very hot especially in town, sometimes almost too hot to touch.

So, among a whole lot of other repairs and maintenance, I had the gearbox filter and oil changed. Only took 3 litres so naturally only a small portion of the oil has been changed.

As a result the tranny runs really cool (ice cold in highway driving and body temp in town) and it hangs only slightly when changing to 2nd.

I intend to drive it a few thousand kilometers (perhaps 2000 miles or so) and change the oil again; then repeat that a few times if necessary.

At the dealers they only change the filter and the 3 litres at inspection II, I checked.
