Hi Taylor,

specs on paper don't necessarily reflect the feeling when you drive:
I have an '89 750iL and a '94 540i touring. The power output of the V12 is 299 DIN HP vs 286 DIN HP on the V8. Torque is 450Nm / 4100 rpm on the V12 vs 400Nm / 4500 rpm. These are the specs for German cars, US is most likely a bit different.
My personal experience is that on long distance driving I prefer my 750 for it's space inside, for fun driving the 540i is my choice. The engine seems to be more responsive / agressive (5-speed auto though vs 4-spped on my 750) and the brakes are undoubtly much better - not this odd system they with this little "bomb" but a real vacuum device.
I highly recommend you testdrive both engines before you make your choice.
Last but not least: The V8 gets a much better milage than the V12

i know one has the 8 and one has the 12 but what are the 0-60 specs, all automatic? Pretty good on power? The intereiors look great. Are there alot of after market parts, upgrades and such? I am a E21 and have rebuilt more 320i's and sifted through the engine more times then i would like to admit. I am looking to get into the market of the big boys and thought i'd head to the source.

Thanks for the time
-Taylor
