I did an 89 2 years ago, didnt even replace compressor and it is still pumping out cold air. Yes if you have a leak in the line etc, it will still be leaking. I have bought 3 rebuilt compressors for conversion at the local Autozone for 130-160 One was defective and they replaced it the next day , other than that all 3 are still running, the oldest going on 5 years. 160 beats 400
I think you have to buy a new compressor though for about $400 I have also heard that when you convert it that it will still leak after you do it.
