if it works, your problem is that the infrared beam (from the remote) is not being picked up by the receiver (which is the little black nub/button next to the sunroof switch). Although the owners manual says that the range of the switchblade remote is 16ft... most times the signal is being blocked and you need to be almost right next to the car to operate the remote. My personal experience is that I wait until I'm next to the drivers window to activate the remote, this way I know that I'm aiming at the receiver. The limited activation of the switchblade remote (infrared) is probably the reason that BMW changed to a different kind.If the remote doesn't work when you are sitting in the car...I would reinitialize it. The instructions to do it are in the 1st few pages of the owners manual.
Good luck,

I just bought a 1990 750iL. The remote for the door locks does not activate the door locks. The locks work with the key. The remote flashes when you push the buttons and I have initialized the remote, I think. What goes wrong with these infra red systems.
