Thanks Fareed. I wasn't planning on buying the alternator from Pep Boys, just having it checked there. I would probably buy the new alternator from JAC. It sounds like I better plan on spending all day on a weekend if I decide to tackle this job myself. If I do it myself, I'll follow the directions in Bentley's....which includes disconnecting the battery. :)

Rob

Hi Rob,
Removal of the radiator to remove the alternator is the only way, you also have to move one of the power steering out of the way to physically take the alternator, yours is a 1988 if it has not been done yet it needs it, I would be very surprised if your Pepboys and such carry it in stock be ready to pay and wait for them to get it. IF you are doing this yourself, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST, there is a two wire hookup at the back 13mm and 8mm due to space restriction these are best disconnected after dismounting the alternator and before installing if you get it rebuilt it it might be cheaper, you should be able to find them in the yellow pages.
Good luck
Fareed
