I just had this happen to me... except it was antifreeze in the oil :)

Just cost me $2000 to fix (at a non dealer repair shop). Mechanic said BMW would have charged me at least $3000. As Larry pointed out, my problem was of the first order... cracked head gasket. It also took 2 filters and 2 oil changes to flush all the coolant out of my engine.

**BTW - Make sure you get the problem diagnosed as to what caused the overheating to begin with. My car is fixed, but the overheating problem may still be there... I've been told it could be the clutch fan is not kicking in sufficiently.

Right now my temp gauge sits at a couple degrees past midnight...and can go up to 3/4's after 30 mins of city driving. Is this a normal temp range? Can someone please comment. Thx.
