I have had the noise diagnosed as a sticking hydraulic lifter. Has anyone found and replaced one of these. The dealer quoted 36hours at 7 million dollars per hour (might as well have been)
Thanks

I've had excellent engine and valve train life using either Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. A suggestion, before your next oil change. Though you could buy an engine "flush" as Gale has recommended, they really are very thin but high detergent oils. A very cost effective alternative is Dextron transmission fluid. I add one quart about 100 miles before the change (but try not to overfill - some cars are a quart low when it's time to do a change).

You'd be surprised how much crap can come out with your oil using this method - especially if you do the change after a good long run ( 1 hour) at highway speeds (60-70 MPH) when the engine oil is quite warm.

Drain the oil thoroughly and be certain to replace the filter with an OEM quality one.

Refill with a good quality motor oil and you should see a reduction in valve train noise. Like most BMW's there is always some engine noise but if you listen, is is more like an orchestra than a rock band ;)

Good luck with your next oil change.

Lou
