The cap fix most likely does the trick. For the odometer; you have a busted memory module.

Some claim that the module (plug-in memory card at the rear of the speedo console OR in the first versions a module that plugs into the main wire socket of the speedo console) can be reprogrammed; mine has never worked either and the local junkyard who have a 100Kmiles driven speedo refuse to sell just the memory plug.

Gotta find out about this, I'll post here when I do find out. The new plug is REALLY expensive. The caps cost near nothing.
