John:

I also have what could be detected as a light lifter noise. However, I have read somewhere that you need to be careful because the noise you hear could be injectors rattling as they open and close. With 12 used(high mileage) injectors opening and closing thousands of times per minute some noise is certainly likely.

If it is lifter noise I would suspect that it is worse on startup and diminishes or disappears as car reaches operating temp. If it's there all the time and does not appear to be be associated with one or several cylinders I would suspect it's injectors.

I did have a lifter sticking on startup just after I first bought my car but an oil change did correct the problem.

I have had the noise diagnosed as a sticking hydraulic lifter. Has anyone found and replaced one of these. The dealer quoted 36hours at 7 million dollars per hour (might as well have been)
Thanks
