Not all parts of the country suffered the high sulfer problem. If the car has all the repair records since new and you can tell it has been maintained and taken care of, don't let not having the block replaced automaticly rule out your purchase. When having the presale inspection done, (a must on a E32 purchase) have them include a leak down test , a commpression test and the idle test. If the results are in the upper limits of of the specs the engine should be all right. If the block has been replaced and they replaced it with another nikasil block still have the above test performed. If the block was replaced with an alumasil block you don't have to bother with the tests. Just having the block replaced is not a automatic end to the sulfer problem. It must have been replaced with an alumsil block.Larry

94 and 95 740iLs had problems with the original engines, which reacted poorly to U.S. gasoline. Most of those engines were replaced by BMW. Some, however, were not. The car had to fail an idle test in order for the engine to be replaced. So, you need to be sure the car has a new block.
