On the way home, 'coolant level' warning comes on the display. As I scan the dash (in slow motion now) my eyes move to the right and see the temp gauge climb to the red mark within a second or two. Steam everywhere, Yikes! I IMMEDIATELY shut it down and coasted to a stop. The sleeve where the top hose ties in to the radiator completely disintegrated! I mean it looks like someone grabbed it and ripped it off. Absolutely amazing that BMW would make a radiator with plastic. Anyway, have a Toyota Celica loaner, get an estimate tomorrow to fix (don't have the time or resources to tackle myself right now).

I don't believe there is any engine damage (hope, hope, hope...) but would there be anyway to check aside from tearing it down (you know that annoying metal to metal grating noise, or the flopping around of a burned piston inside the cylinder wall, engine parts coming out the exhaust, etc. etc.).

Getting all hoses, clamps and thermostat replaced. Anything else recommended while its apart? Is the water pump as big a deal as it is on the V12's or are they short lived on the 740's too?

94/740i/71k/US - not running now, sheesh. And it wasn't pretty seeing it pulled onto a rollback.
