The dealer should have replaced the engine with a long block (complete with heads), at least that's what they did in my car. The heads should have been factory installed and hopefully torqued correctly.

Good luck,

Keith

My car is a 1994 740i. The short block was replaced at 92k miles after rough idle provoked a leak down down test, which the car failed. Reason for failure I assume is the typical problem of high sulfure gas and a NIKASIL block. I purchased the car with all doccumentation of short block swap 200 miles after replacement in December of 2000. The car has run perfectly and is in near showroom condition in and out.
The reason I am looking into the head torque is lack of confidence in the dealers quality control. I have found missing clips and nuts on minor parts (trim panels, engine covers and the like). The valve cover fasteners aslo were not snug which allowed a small amount of oil into the plug channels. Thus I would like to check out all areas I can easily access in order to prevent a major melt down in the future, i.e. a warped head from improper torque.
