The reservoir had no visible fluid when opened and was topped of with ATF. The label calls for pentosin CHF 11S. Car has LAD

do you have pentosin or ATF (some of the early E32s did seem to have ATF if they didn't need the "stability" of Pentosin in the LAD rear shocks)...

If you do have the wrong fluid, you might be better off leaving it as-is until you can figure out the whole game plan... if you're a 740 (tyring to remember here) then they have vacuum breake boost NOT the hydraulic one, so if you don't have LAD then the reservour is POWER STEERING alone and there may be allowances for that... if not, it's a careful flush and work out if seals need checking / changing...

What's the exact setup now... what fluid, what hydraulics options, what's the spec in the manual..?

Max

Ihave the wrong power steering fluid in my reservoir. How do I drain it?
