Greg, most likely you do not have remote keyless entry. E32's shipped to North America got the infrared "switchblade" keyless remote system from 89- 9/91(standard equip on 750iL's and as an option on the 735i/iL)... 10/91-94 the remotes contain a programmable chip.
If you have the I/R switchblade remote system installed in your 735i, you will have a black nub/button next to your sunroof switch that appears to have no function. That nub/button is the I/R (infrared) receiver for the I/R beam that eminates from the switchblade remote.
There was/is a BMW keyless remote system that is sold in the BMW accessory catalog. You may be able to install that system...but you would need to check if it is compatible with your model year.
If you have a red LED light in the center of your dash...that is the indicator light for your cars theft detterent system. Its function is to inform you when the system has been activated (by turning your key past the detent when locking...thus engaging the double lock (it makes an audible sound you can hear engaging). Also holding your key in that position will close any open window, then the sunroof if you have left them open.

Q
91 735iL

I just got my car Saturday and only got the spare key. The owner lost the others. Do all the 88 735i's have remote door locks? I called the dealer and he wasn't sure. (That's comforting) How can I tell and if it has it, how do I get the remote device?
