This one I found out while changing my oilfilter. There are two types of filters. One large oilfilter, which is only and unique for a 750 (87-92), and a smaller one (with a small hole at the top and a bigger hole at the bottem) for 740 and a later type of 750.

But here comes the trick: the old cannister type (alu lid) is sometimes retrofitted (service bulletin?) to fit the new type of filter. This is the case with my car. Although I have a '88 750, with an alu large oilcannister, I need the new type of filter (same filter used in v8). Of course, i discovered this after ending up with 2 wrong oilfilters and a little headache.

I have also had trouble finding the correct oil filter for the 750. The oil filters in the local auto parts stores may look correct but the fit the 740 and 735 engines, not the 750. You have to go to the dealer for the correct one.
