Voltage regulator was the culprit as Ekkehart and Thomas pointed out. New OEM regulator was $60 (the later E32s had higher output alternators).

the anti-lock light came on again....felt a change in the brakes, but seem to correct it itself this afternoon.....
on the way home tonite...anti-lock light came on ..headlights dimmed, dash dimmed, radio on and off...then the car died.
Would not start period...put in new battery last week.
Is it the alternator? any other suggestions?
could there be a problem with anti-lock system which causes some sort of problem??????
