Jens, I cannot believe the excellent timing of your post (or at least the timing of me finding it!)

I have been fighting a bad idle problem for 6 months that sounds a lot like John's. I posted John that my most recent replacement part, the fuel pressure regulator, seemed to work.

Well, it did for 2 days. My 130K miles '94 740IL (block replaced with Alusil at 40K miles) did idle fine for those 2 days but all of a sudden at a stop light it rocked suddenly (side to side), the check ENG light came on (code 1221) & the idle was rough again. After 20 minutes of highway driving the CKH ENGINE light went out & idle was fine again. This is the behavior I get from time to time now. Note that my idle and my performance at all RPM's/engine speeds is much better from all the new parts/sensors but I still get intermittent idle trouble.

Now I am suspecting something electrical like relays (fuel pump, main DME, etc), fuses, rubbing wires, bad ground, etc...

In modern engines ('94 BMW engines included) electronics are critical. I hate to say this but I am starting to think that my idle problem may be due to some wire somewhere rubbing against ground & messing up engine DME. Then later, the wire moves & all is fine. I do not look forward to inspecting all the wiring!

I just don't know. I have replaced everything I can think of from fuel pump through all the sensors involved in idle.

I defer to the experts on this board. Please... Any ideas???

Hi Jerry you bin helping my buddie John,
I will take over do to the facthe is not very
knowlidgable about cars,
Ok you where probl. asking reg. to his Engine if it has the old type, no his was exchanged after 50th miles,
this is an 1994 940i, V8 Engine,
now the code it is reading is "1222" which stands for
O2 sensor, well both bin replaiced,
but I found out that the issue stardet after they installed
new Engine mounts, so I'm starding to think the goofed
up and maybe crunched some cables,
what r your thoughts.

Sincerely Jens
