Mercon V rated fluids. Synthetics seam to give better cold weather performance (smoother shifts on those 20 degree days). My general read from the board that brand is less of a factor, although I'm sure you'll get a post about a redline fan, than changing the fluid and filter regularly. If you have not done the tranny recently or do not know when it was done last, you should also do the filter. It tends to take 4 full fluid change cycles to get all the fluid in the system out (the torque converter holds quite a bit that does not drain with the fluid that is in the pan). You might also want to consider doing the fluid in the diff at the same time. Here the preferred fluid seams to be synthetic and redline makes a good oil for this purpose.

1990 735iL 138K - I have read the board about changing tranny fuild and checked the archives, but need opinion on best fluid to use and what milage intravals to change?
