7's are larger than 5's... the differences changed by the model year to how much depends on which year you are comparing. Engines are the same. 7's also have more luxury features standard (in the US) and weigh quite a bit more than 5's. The 530 - with the small v8 - was not available for too many years in the states - I seem to recall only 2 model years with that motor in the mid 90s. An early 540 will be a much more 'fun' car if that is what you want.

Ok, still searching for a nice car. What are the differences between the 535 and 735? Also, I have seen 530i's (v8), are they good too?
