I was just curious regarding the NGK part number.
There are most likely a lot of plugs that would function well in the M70. But like you said with experiments, it usually does not pay.
At the moment BMW recommends NGK BKR6EQUP as their standard long life plug for basically all engines. They have approved them also for the older M70 and e.g. M40 engines. I have used standard Bosch F8LCR plugs on both the M40 and the M70. I got them for about 25c a piece. I will still use them in the wife's M40 enigine. Change takes 15 minutes includig visual inspection of the old plugs an storing the plug wrench.
For the M70 replacing plugs is job nobody likes. At least I have not found a volunteer to do it for me. My dealer takes 2 hrs. So changing to a plug that should last 3-4 times longer than the conventional ones could make sense. I personally do not believe in any drastic improvements. My engine idles nicely, starts and runs good (179k mls) and accelerates without problems to 156 mph. I drive more than 40k mls per year and my gasoline bill excceeds $8000 per year.
It was only that I have read the P/N mentioned by you and could not find it in the manual.
