It can work for 50 meters or 50 kilometers at a time, then it suddenly disconnects. It seems as if there is nothing specific causing it; it can happen on straight, level road, in a curve, on a hilltop, at low speed, at high speed, wet conditions, dry conditions, etc etc. The only time when it happens more than usually is when the car is really cold in the morning; that's when it seems it is very difficult to get it to work at all; after switching it on 20 times per kilometre I usually grumble something I dare not repeat here and start just using the accelerator pedal. It also seems that even when the engine has reached normal operating temperature, the problem is still not solved but it takes a longer time before the cruise starts to really "stick". Therefore I've thought it might be related to the tranny or the rear somehow - if they take a longer time to "warm up".
When it disconnects, I can just flick the cruise switch up and it will engage again (at a slightly different speed as before) just to disconnect after the next 50meters... or 500meters.. Or 7,68 kilometres... Or 74 kilometres... One never knows!
Ekkehart suggested this would be caused by intake leaks but a 750 specialist who took a look at my engine is confident that this engine isn't having an intake leak. (his sure was)I know my DK motors and flaps are full of dirt which might cause them to malfunction occasionally so that might cause it too.
I have heard that the speedo sensor in the rear diff has also caused cruise problems for some people.
Is there something in the tranny that could disengage the cruise? Like the sensors for "which gear it's on"??
Anyone have similar symptoms? What'd you do?
