Sorry to hear about your 7's heart gave out. Is the car at a stealer or a private shop? My first step would be to talk with the stealer and see if they can get a copy of the leak down test. If it was performed by a BMW dealer there should be records of it on file. If the car is at a BMW dealer at the moment talk to them nice(you want them on your side)and have them contact BMWNA and see if they will cover it. If they decline have them give you the phone number and talk to the rep yourself(here again try to be nice at least at first). Hopefully they will cover some if not all the expenses. There was a post a while back on a couple of people that got some releif for this problem.(check the archives and copy them to send to the rep so you can show that they have stood behind there product in the past. Another road to take would be to convince the third party insurer that this was not a recall as all nikasil engines were not replaced, BMWNA just offered a extended warranty on the engine so it should be treated just like any other part that went bad after the factory warranty expired. Good luck and keep the board updated the progress of this situation as a few of us here may be facing the same thing down the road. If you would keep me informed by E-mail as I too could have this problem.

At 92K, the engine in my 740iL gave up the ghost. Massive ring failure; oil everywhere. In the mistaken idea that my third party warranty would replace it, I authorized a mechanic to remove the heads so the warranty inspector could give it a look. $1500 later the warranty company pointed to the "no coverage for manufacturer recalls" clause in the policy and declined coverage.

I now have a headless 740 and am being told a new engine is $15,000.

Is there any change that BMW will stand by their car and replace the engine? It was given a leakdown test before I bought it and passed (according to the dealer; I never saw the results).

Any advice on how to proceed will be gratefully received.

TIA

Woe is ME
