I intermitently had numerous error messages and when I shut the car off, the check control would show on the display. I initially did the capacitor fix with no success. The dealer pulled the circuit board behind the instrument cluster and put a thin layer of lithium grease on the printed circuit board. For two weeks everything worked fine, until I left the car out in the sun one hot day and the grease moved on. Eventually I put in a new circuit board and have not had any problems since.

Good Luck

Rod
You mentioned a check control problem, what was the symptom and what was the exact cure for it?
Have an 89 750il that says check control if you turn the car off mor on without having the parking lights on, other than that it works perfectly.
