The term is port and polish in some cases, and Yes turbulence is good in the intake, the more the fuel is atomized before combustion the better, in old hot rod chevies you will find grooves cut in the intake, and raised grooves in the main plenum to increase turbulence and atomization, old tricks port match the headers, heads and intake, and polish the exhaust, smooth the intake and roughen the plenum. It works great with a carb, we however have fuel injection, and unless you installed little tiny ones in the manifold runner it probably wouldn't do a lot. I think if it was possible to increase power and mileage just by installing these, BMW would use them in their street, and race cars too. Heck all the manufacturers would.
