Although I have never owned a big BMW before, that seems like a LOT of miles on the engine.
Checking around, the dealer says they do not rebuild engines as it never works out and they won't be responsible, and that an exchange engine is almost $8000.
The car is $6500 and runs beautifully and looks new, but my wife says she won't ride in such an old car with so many miles unless I put in a new engine.
I know lots of big BMWs go more than 100,000 miles (I had a 320i once that went 105,000 before the engine was shot), but just how far will one go? Maybe I can convince my wife to buy this car rather than the Explorer she wants (it only has 85,000 miles and is $12,800).
She likes the "sporty" nature of the Explorer (How do the TV commercials convince so many women that 4wheel drive station wagons are so "sporty?"), but I have always wanted a comfortable soft car like the 7 Series BMW.
