Hello, David, this seems to happen every year at this time. I think the change in temp/humidity causes some of the "masking" material in the LCD to flake off. The LCDs on OBC are used in the "shutter mode", they are normally "black" to prevent the backlight from being seen... they are turned "off", or clear, to allow the light to shine through. Therefore, the area all around the segments must be permanently "black" to prevent the backlight from coming through, ever.

The BMW part CDROM seems to show a part number for the front panel of the OBC, a sample part number is 65811378022, but it doesn't look like this includes the display, only the buttons and bezel.

My OBC has recently come to the top of the "gotta do" list (YAY! this means more major, non-cosmetic stuff is done), salvage prices seem to be running $100 - $150, BUT I think the salvage items will also be prone to this failure. Once I have a replacement unit, I'll try some surgery / paintery on the original unit, but this is really dicey.

good luck

Hi,

I have popped over from the e34 board, as nobody was able to help with a problem I asm having with the OBC display which the e34 and e32 share.

The other morning it developed a cluster of pixels around the center of the display which obscures some of the characters on the screen.

Touching the screen does not make any difference. I also noticed that the pixels are faintly visible when the Ignition is turned off.

Any idea ?

Thank you
David
