Hi Paul!
Had the problem of water in the boot (you guys say trunk)on my 88 735i a few years back. solved the problem by adjusting the catch mechanism on the lid of the 'trunk' to catch more tightly when shut. It's a simple adjustment and alows the contact surface of the 'trunk' lid to sit water tighly against the seal.
