Hopefully it was an electronic gremlin/glitch and disappeared when you shut the car down and restarted. If it keeps recurring...check the archives under "LKM" or "mustard relay". Hopefully you know how to use a soldering iron. 8-)

What is ASC? ASC is automatic stability control. If you have ASC, there should be a toggle switch with ASC written on it down near your gear shift selector. ASC system uses the ABS wheel sensors to detect wheel spin...and will reduce engine power and timing to reduce the potential for rear wheel spin. If you have ASC+T, the spinning wheel's brake will be used to stop the spinning and regain traction.

Here's the model breakdown of who has ASC or ASC+T and the year(s) it was instituted:
750iL: ASC (1990) / ASC-T (from 1991)
740i/iL: ASC (n/a) / ASC-T (1993-94)
735i/iL: ASC (1991) / ASC-T (n/a)

Q
91 735iL

My 1988 735i check control display went haywire this morning . I saw numerous false signals displayed first door open then hood, then trunk, ASC defective, water separator, trans level, catalyst . This all happened in rapid succession with all the annoying bells. I just pushed the display button and none of the messages are retreived. What is ASC? Thanks Mike
