If the engine starts momentarily (like one second or less) then immediatly stalls, the first place I would look is for a big air intake leak between the air flow meter and engine. This is a very common symptom of that type of failure. With the engine partially running, but cannot rev might indicate a smaller leak in this area. I also highly recommend to all BMW DIYers the Bently "Bosch Fuel Injection& Engine Management" manual. This manual includes High Performance Tuning as well as troubleshooting. It covers the Bosch LH-Motronic system (used in the 750), the Motronic system (used in the 735) and others. It has been indispensible in maintaining and modifying my '79 733i Turbo as well.

I hope this gets you started.

Brad

Anybody know why my 88 735i starts with difficulty, apparently flooding the plugs and then when it does start, it can't be revved up without stalling, as though the engines' being flooded with juice but starved of air. Replacement air flow meter didn't help. Is there a throttle control valve/ sensor that might be to blame, or something else that I'm missing altogether? Any info greatly appreciated by this humble newcomer.
