There's always the obvious method... from a stop, point the car into a corner, and ROMP ON IT!!

A non-LSD car will spin like crazy, with LSD you'll get some slippage, sure, but it will chatter and grab more than an open diff.

and it's funner than hell!

'88 735i w/ LSD, but still checking to be sure...8->

I was hoping there would be a way to check without having the car on a hoist. I will look for the S on the tag.

Cheers.

I'm not aware of any models where it was standard. My '88 735i had it, but that was a 5-sp manual, so maybe it left the factory being more "sport" oriented.

If you get a chance to get the car on a lift, (wheels free) release the brakes and put it in neutral. Turn one rear wheel. If it turns the same direction, it's LSD... if it turns the other direction, it's an open diff.

Of course, by the time you get it on a lift, you can just look for the tag...

Thanks Eric,
Did LSD come standard on any particular models? I am looking primarily at the 735i.

Thanks.
