My battery quit charging a few days ago, I verified it to be the alternator. Is there an auxiliary alternator? If yes, where does it live?

After removing the alternator (7 o'clock posn on engine as one faces fwd..), seems it sucked in some rocks. I'll be installing some screen when it all goes back together.
