The switchblade I/R remote was used from 89- 9/91. 10/91-up uses a radio frequency remote. Like Chuck stated...if your car uses the switchblade remote, then you would have a little black nub/button next to your sunroof switch that doesn't appear to do anything. It is the I/R receiver for the switchblade remote.

I have a '92 750iL, but no IR remotes for the car. I have two lighted keys and one regular key, but no swtichblade or other remotes. I have only had the car for about 8 months and didn't get the remotes.

Before I buy a switchblade remote for $100+, I want to make sure it's going to work. The owners manual describes how to use it, etc, and the sales brochure says keyless entry is standard.

BUT....When I read how to program the switchblade remote, it says to turn key to position 1, and point the remote face down into the top of the center dash HVAC vent. I have taken the cover off the center dash vent to see that there is nothing there as far as I can tell that is going to program an IR remote.

Additionally, Bentley says that the location of the factory alarm horn is in the front right corner of the vehicle under the engine intake duct. I don't see an alarm horn there. I'd really rather not rip the back seat out if I don't have to in order to see if there is an alarm system brain box under there. The owners manual also says the receiver for the IR remote is behind the rearview mirror. I don't see anything resembling an IR receiver there. There is no wires coming out of the rearview mirror, and I can't see anything above it in the headliner.

Can anyone explain any of this? I'd really rather not end up with a useless $100 key fob.

Jason
