I'd personally guess there's somthing in the tranny area thats acting as a starter interlock... maybe something is heating up with the internal cabin temperatures and "stepping in" prematurely?

Does the car **have to** roll forward in N to start, or is it just being in N? Is just in/just out of N make any difference?

Hi Guys,

A weird thing is happening on my '91 730i and also just recently my '92 320i.

Sometimes after running for a while in hot weather, and switching off the engine, when I return to the car I can't start it. I turn the key and nothing happens. Not even click click noise on the starter. Headlights work and wipers work.

If I put the car in Neutral and roll it forward whilst turning the key, the car will start.

Is this what's called vapour lock? I am using high quality 97 octane fuel.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Hiram
