I had the same thing happen to my '94 740iL. Turned out that replacing the power seat actuator cables solved the problem. Actually, a rather cheap fix (around $40 for all 4 of them).

I just got a 91-750 and a problem popped up. When the back of driver's seat (power) is moved, only one side is moved causing the seat to tilt to one side. One side is not moving at all. I am wondering if the problem lies in the shocks because the power/motor seems to work. Any help would be great appreciated. Thanks.
