No reverse and clicking underneath. (archive)

Two things on the 730 (89) tha might be related.

(1) I get about 3 seconds of reverse and then no reverse. Sometimes I get no reverse at all. The mechanic says it is the gearbox.

(2) There is a clicking sound, centrally located, underneath the car. The best way to describe it is if a few old computer cards or pieces of cardboard were inserted into the spokes of a bicycle and fluttered when the bike moves. The sound is loudest when the car coasts, and disappears when the car accelerates. The mech replaced a lose coupling which made the sound disappear for a day but now its back.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Charles
