Try dropping the center support bearing to give you some clearance. I have found that all BMW joints and connections are good tight fits. Don't let the shaft hang as you could damage the joints, support it with a jack or wood blocks. Oh yes, you will have to drop the cat back (exhaust from catalytic converter rearward) to do this. It may be possible to get cleaance by just loosening the two rear clamps and the two rubber hangers, but am not sure.
